Our Coffee Sourcing

Travelling Roots is primarily a Nicaraguan coffee roaster. You can find more information about the inspiration and reasons behind this on the "Our Story" page.

It is our mission to source a wide variety of the best Nicaraguan coffee from across the nation, with the three primary regions being Nueva Segovia, Jinotega, and Matagalpa. While we currently source our coffee through trusted importers who prioritise fair wages, the environment and building long lasting partnerships with farmers, we also want to offer "direct trade" coffee in the near future.

We have met with several farmers and producers in the country, and when economically and logisitcally viable, we will offer coffee from from farmers and producers we have personally met.

Having said this, although Nicaragua is the largest country by land mass in Central America,it is still a relatively small coffee producing nation ranking 12th on the list of largest producers by volume (1.3% of world coffee). Like the majority of countries it also only has one coffee harvest per year which usually runs from October to January with shipments being from January to May.

Disclaimer:

Due to the seasonal and volatile nature of sourcing coffee from one country, it may, at times, be nessesary for Travelling Roots to offer a small number of alternatives from neighbouring countries/regions. This will be to ensure the commercial viability of the company, and also offer a wider variety of coffee offerings during poor harvest seasons in Nicaragua.
