Our Nicaraguan Coffee Story

Travelling Roots started with a young family, Freddie, Molly and little Theodore living in Nicaragua. We fell in love with the beautiful landscapes and incredible tasting coffee. With its volcanic soil, high altitude and unique micro climates, Nicaragua is the hidden gem of speciality coffee.

After many wonderful trips to the coffee growing region of Nueva Segovia to visit farms and meet with producers, we embarked on a journey to share their passion for Nicaraguan coffee and its farmers with the world.

Our vision for the future of Travelling Roots is to work with as many farmers as possible, offering a wide variety of direct trade coffee for much of our offerings and work towards a model that gives back to the local communities and farmers.

The Travelling Roots logo represents the two volcanos on the magical island of Ometepe in the middle of Lake Nicaragua. This is where the idea for the business first started. We tasted great organic coffee grown on the side of a Volcano Maderas.

The photos below depict some of the farmers and producers we met while there.
